The BBC reported that a violent clash between Christians and Muslims occurred in The Central African Republic (CAR), causing the deaths of 75 victims. Local pastors have reported that many villagers have fled to churches to hide from all the violence.
Most of the victims were reported to be Christian (BBC) and the exact number of Muslim casualties is not yet known. The republic has been the center of religious conflicts ever since the resignation of President Michel Djotodia, earlier this year. Though the newly established regime was planning to restore peace, and initiate free elections this year, clashes between sects and other fights between the Seleka rebels and the anti-Balak fighters have hindered such efforts.
CAR has been ranked number 16 in the world by Open Doors, a persecution watchdog group where Christians face persecution. A local minister told Christian Post (CP) that over 4000 people gathered, hiding in his church.
Another main concern for this nation is the possible spread of disease. CAR will soon be entering the rainy season, and the resulting conditions can cause a great deal of mud to form, not only bringing about a great deal of inconvenience but increasing the likelihood of malaria, and other waterborne illnesses.
