Tony Romo sustained a suspected broken left collarbone on Sunday, which could force the Dallas Cowboys quarterback to miss the entire 2015 NFL season.
Romo went down during the third quarter of their 20-10 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles. According to ESPN, Romo knew that he hurt his collarbone even before he was examined by doctors inside their locker room.
The 35-year-old quarterback, who threw 18-for-27 for 195 yards before getting hurt on Sunday, said that he felt the same feeling when he sustained a similar injury five years ago.
"I felt it," Romo told reporters. "It had a little bit of a pop to it. Obviously, I've felt it before. Your body goes into a little bit of shock and you just have to wait it out for a second to come back.
Initial reports indicated that Romo could be out for up to 10 weeks, but Cowboys coach Jason Garrett declined to confirm a timetable, knowing that such injury could be season-ending for any player. Romo will undergo more examinations on Monday to determine the extent of the injury before deciding on whether or not surgery is needed.
"We have to determine how much muscle damage there is in the shoulder," Garrett said. "Then we will have a better idea on the length of time he will miss."
Romo's injury is another blow to the Cowboy's campaign this season. During their season opener against the New York Giants, they also lost Dez Bryant to a foot injury.
According to NFL.com, Bryant might not be able to return until December as reports revealed the doctors needed to insert a bone graft during the surgery on Monday. Previous reports suggested that Bryant could be out for 4-6 weeks, but the recent surgery might need a 10-to-12 week recovery period.
Aside from Romo and Bryant, the Cowboys also lost Randy Gregory to a high ankle sprain during their 27-26 win against the Giants on Sunday night. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones reacted on the injury blows.
"We said a lot of prayers while they were evaluating Romo," Jones said. "We never would've thought after two ballgames we'd have no Tony Romo, no Dez Bryant, even no Gregory, the way he was playing. On the other hand, this is the life we chose and we know good and well this can happen to you."
The Cowboys, who are now 2-0 after the win against the Eagles, will host the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.
