While the "Deadpool' trailer unveiled at Comic-Con earlier this month has not yet been made available online, 20th Century Fox decided to surprise fans instead by releasing three brand new new photos from Ryan Reynolds' highly anticipated superhero film, thanks to U.K.'s Empire magazine.
Fans have already gotten a glimpse of Marvel's infamous "Merc with a Mouth' all decked out in his red and black armor, thanks to a previously released promotional still.
However, one of the new photos shows Reynolds' character, Wade Wilson, out of his costume together with his lover Vanessa Carlysle aka Copycat, played by "Homeland' star Morena Baccarin. As a shape-shifting mutant, she was previously associated with the X-Men offshoot group X-Force in the comics.
The second image offers a glimpse of Deadpool along with Brianna Hildebrand's character, Negasonic Teenage Warhead, known as a telepathic mutant with superb precognitive abilities.
With the upcoming film, this will be the second time that Reynolds wears his Deadpool mask; the character made an appearance in 2009's X-Men spinoff, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine,' which had put the hero forward as a degraded mindless antagonist with his evilly clever mouth sealed shut. Such depiction was met with disdain by comic book fans.
"I think it's an absolute miracle that a studio let us make "Deadpool,' let alone a rated-R "Deadpool,'" Reynolds said, describing the upcoming movie as "the most faithful adaptation of a comic book to a movie I've ever seen."
As pointed out by "X-Men: Days of Future Past' writer and producer Simon Kinberg, Deadpool also plays a part iun Fox's plans to expand the X-Men cinematic universe,
"There's definitely a sort of overall plan that we've all been talking about for the X-Men universe now, and Deadpool obviously fits into that," the scribe told ComicBook.com.
Kinberg also explained the process of creating these Marvel movies and establishing a strong link across them.
"I guess I would say it's part of certainly an overall timeline and thought process that goes into these films, some of which is inspired by the comics and some which is inspired by seeing what Marvel's done with telling a larger tapestry and linking all those movies together, even as they stand independently as well," he shared.
"Deadpool' will make its way to theaters on Feb. 12, 2016.
