It had been a long courtship for the Marvel Cinematic Universe to get "The Notebook" star Rachel McAdams to join the "Doctor Strange" film. In the end, she finally said yes to the movie that will star Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Tilda Swinton, and Mads Mikkelsen.
During a recent interview with MTV, McAdams revealed what convinced her to join Marvel's upcoming superhero film.
"I mean, I just love the director. I met with Scott (Derrickson) and loved his vision, he was so passionate. And the opportunity to work with Benedict was kind of a no-brainer. And Marvel makes amazing films, so it was a complete package," she gushed.
McAdams cannot say yes what her role in the film will be, but revealed that she has already started filming her scenes. She did say, however, that "Doctor Strange" will be really different from other Marvel flicks such as "Iron Man" and "The Avengers."
"It's definitely not going to be like any of the other films," she confirmed.
The actress is no stranger to the comic book universe, and in fact, she earlier shared just who she wanted to portray on the big screen.
"I'm certainly not a comic book snob. I really enjoy them and reading them, I think the 'Doctor Strange' franchise is really interesting and Benedict is amazing. And I love graphic novels. I love that they are coming to light," she said in an interview with the L.A. Times.
Even though the offer Marvel gave her is a "great opportunity," the role she really set her heart on is the mysterious Black Orchid.
"I always wanted to make 'Black Orchid.' It's a tough one. But the fact that Doctor Strange is happening makes me think there's hope for more Neil Gaiman out there," she said.
Black Orchid is actually a human plant hybrid with superhuman strength, speed, agility, and durability. She can even fly into space, and she is able to reincarnate herself by mental transference. The Black Orchid is also a master of disguise who can deceive her opponents by altering her appearance and voice.
Her real name can either be Susan Linden-Thorne, Flora Black, or just plain "Suzy."
Of course, Hollywood has no plans yet to incorporate Black Orchid on the big screen, and since accepting Marvel's offer, McAdams will now be seen portraying a different character.
"Doctor Strange" will be released in cinemas on November 4, 2016.
