The two-part "Doctor Who' season eight finale is set to hit the big screen with a couple of new surprises!
BBC Worldwide North America and Fathom Events issued an announcement that they will be bringing the well-loved "Doctor Who' back to the big screen for a special theatrical event spanning two nights.
The two-part season eight finale, with episodes titled "Dark Water' and "Death in Heaven,' will be shown in RealD 3D and Dolby Atmos sound on Sept. 15 and 16 at 7:30 pm.
The event is also expected to feature a special scene titled "The Doctor's Meditation,' a prequel to the first episode of the ninth season, along with an exclusive interview with "Doctor Who' stars Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman.
In addition, the entire event will be hosted by Wil Wheaton from "Star Trek: The Next Generation' and "Big Bang Theory.'
Tickets for "Doctor Who: Dark Water/Death in Heaven in 3D' will be made available online and can be purchased starting on Friday, July 31 by checking out Fathom Events or participating theater box offices.
Fans all over the U.S. can look forward to the event, which will be shown in roughly 700 movie theaters through Fathom's Digital Broadcast Network.
"We love bringing Doctor Who events to theaters and seeing the fans come out in full force," Fathom Events VP of Programming Kymberli Frueh shared. "This time fans get the added excitement of seeing all the action in 3D with exclusive bonus content not available anywhere else."
Soumya Sriraman, EVP Film, Home Entertainment, and Licensing for BBC Worldwide North America, also explained the reason behind the return of "Doctor Who' to the big screen.
"After the enormous success of the 50th Anniversary and season eight premiere - both number one alternative one-night cinema events, two years in a row - we decided to bring the Doctor back to the big screen in 3D so Whovians across the country can have a full immersive experience of Peter Capaldi as the Doctor," Sriraman explained.
Opening up about the possibilities for his character on the ninth season of the hit series, Capaldi stated: "(The Doctor) is in pursuit of joy and grabbing every thrill that he can along the way. But I sense him running from something, that even he does not yet understand"¦"
"Doctor Who' returns for season nine on Saturday, Sept.19 on BBC America. Its first official trailer can be viewed below.
