Electronic Arts announced that it is working on several mobile games based on the Minion characters, which were popularized by the "Despicable Me" films.
The first game, "Minions Paradise," can be played for free and will arrive for mobile devices this summer, according to IGN.
The project was made possible through a partnership between EA and Illumination Entertainment, the production company behind the "Despicable Me" franchise.
For "Minions Paradise," the two companies will introduce a new Minion character named Phil. According to EA, Phil is a never-before-seen character and the upcoming mobile game marks his first appearance.
The game follows the story of Phil and his fellow Minions as they find themselves shipwrecked and stranded on a tropical island. Through the main character, players must design and build a perfect vacation-style world for the Minions, according to Android Central.
"Phil holds the key to building the ultimate Minions Paradise, and joins his Minion buddies as they set out to create a world of every Minion's dreams after their plans for a tropical vacation go awry," EA said in a statement.
"You will get to build, craft and design the ultimate Minion playground every step of the way," the company added. "Get ready to water ski behind alligators, fish for electric eels and toss mangos from floating balloons as you're immersed in the ultimate Minion utopia."
"Minions Paradise" is not the first mobile game based on the "Despicable Me" characters. In 2013, developer Gameloft released "Despicable Me: Minion Rush" for iOS and Android devices.
Philippines-based developer Anino Games also released its own version with "Despicable Me: Minion Mania" for the iPhone and iPad platforms.
EA has not yet revealed the official release dates or the titles for the other mobile games featuring the Minions. As for Illumination Entertainment, the studio is gearing up for the release of the "Minions" film which is set to hit theaters on July 10, 2015.
The film will feature an origin story which will show how the loveable characters came to be.
