Ed Sheeran once again proved how much he truly values his fans as he made a cancer patient's birthday wish come true when he visited her in the hospital to join the celebration, according to The Huffington Post.
Amidst his extremely busy and tight schedule, the English singer decided to take some time off from his New Zealand tour and personally visit Jesse Knight, a 20-year-old fan of his who was unable to attend his concert due to her treatments to battle Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, in Auckland Hospital. The event came into fruition after Knight's friend, Anna Strong, created a Facebook post that urged other social media users to help her attract the attention of the British star. Using the hashtag #KiaOraEdPlsVisitJess, Strong aimed to bring her friend's plight into the spotlight and hopefully convince Sheeran to visit the hospital.
"We see Ed do amazing stuff for his fans all the time and the power of messages going viral these days is so crazy," Strong shared, referring to her motivation to use the social media platform to launch this heartwarming campaign. "So why not try," she admitted.
The sheer number of people who willingly participated in the cause eventually caught the singer's attention who agreed to the request. "It was amazing. The whole experience was surreal," described Knight who remained ecstatic throughout the visit and even afterwards.
"Ed was a really nice guy, down to earth and genuine," she said. "We talked about the Lego movie - he recommended I watch it today. And he talked about when he was in Perth and he saw lots of sharks and he said he hoped New Zealand didn't have as many," the 20-year-old added.
The Facebook post that made this event possible garnered a total of almost 4,000 participants. "Hey everyone! We want to try and make this message go VIRAL!" Strong wrote in the page. "But we need your help! Ed Sheeran is coming to NZ next month and this beautiful lady [Knight] can no longer go and listen to the sweet music he makes!" she shared.
Strong went on to say, "Last year in October Jess was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia." She shared that Knight is currently "in the midst of her final stage of treatment," which means that she will not be able to attend the highly anticipated concert. Strong disclosed that her friend also failed to attend the Katy Perry concert the year before due to her ongoing chemotherapy.
"She will be too sick to make it and the day after the Saturday concert it is her 20th birthday!" she said. "Please help us make this the best birthday ever!" Knight's friend pleaded to the netizens and their friends.
