Actress Kim Dickens is "game" for a possible crossover between "The Walking Dead' and its companion series "Fear the Walking Dead."
"I think we were just sort of led to believe early on that there was no crossover [because 'Fear the Walking Dead'] was a little bit different time period, a different story, different location, different characters," she said in an interview with Digital Spy. "But I don't think it's anything that's out of the question. I'm sure the writers would do it in a fantastic way."
"[Though] I have no idea if they're going to do it ... I would be game for it!" the 50-year-old actress, who takes on the role Madison Clark on the AMC series, eagerly added.
However, in an earlier interview with Deadline after the first season of "Fear The Walking Dead' ended, series executive producer Gale Anne Hurd explained that having the two zombie drama shows interconnect in future episodes remains questionable.
Hurd shared that developing a potential crossover between the two stories will depend on the rules of the universe created by Robert Kirkman.
"Our group of survivors in 'The Walking Dead' hasn't even made it as far as Washington D.C. yet, in six seasons, and they are not that far away. So for the 'Fear' characters to make it across the country? For what? I mean why would you go there?" Hurd added.
She also explained that the mission of the shows' characters significantly influence their direction in their story, thereby subsequently creating a gap.
"How would we motivate our characters to head to D.C. ... to head to the Southeast. I just don't think that that's something that would be a natural outgrowth of who our characters are and where they are when the show begins," Hurd stated.
In contrast to many networks who would have jumped at the concept and opportunity of using a crossover between shows for increased ratings, it was suggested by Hurd that AMC and her co-producers are taking more careful steps in considering a crossover between the two programs. She also discussed the importance of having "care for the characters" and looking into their wants and needs.
While it remains uncertain whether such crossover between "The Walking Dead' and "Fear the Walking Dead' would take place in the future, showrunner Dave Erickson shared to The Hollywood Reporter earlier this year that it would be interesting to see how the two zombie apocalypse programs will collide, sparking speculations that it could still be possible for the shows to be linked.
"We are living under the same mythological umbrella," he said. "We are telling, ultimately, two parts of the larger story in this world that Robert has created. From a storytelling standpoint, I like the idea of conflating stories; I like the idea of things coming together."
"The Walking Dead' season six makes its way back to AMC on Feb. 14, while a premiere date for "Fear the Walking Dead' season two is yet to be announced.
