British boxer Amir Khan mocked Floyd Mayweather on Instagram as his frustration continues to increase as he has yet to get words if the reigning pound-for-pound king will fight him in September.
Khan, who has been lobbying for a fight against the unbeaten welterweight and junior middleweight champion for more than a year, posted a photo on Instagram, insisting that he is willing to give into Mayweather's demands just to make the fight happen.
Khan showed a photo of him with an oversized gloves. The photo suggested that he is willing to give Mayweather the right to pick gloves for him. Last year, Mayweather almost called off a fight against Marcos Maidana because the Argentine wanted to use gloves with less padding before eventually giving into the demanded gloves of Floyd Jr.
The 28-year-old, who holds a 31-3 record with 19 knockout victories, expressed his frustration in a recent interview with World Boxing News. He feels he has done enough to merit a fight against Mayweather, but the Grand Rapids native has yet to give signs he will get a shot in September.
"I fought Luis Collazo, I beat him and that still wasn't enough. Then I fought Devon Alexander top of the bill at the MGM Grand, a three time world champion and I thought I'd done enough but I still didn't get the fight," Khan said. "Now I have just come off a win against Chris Algieri, who is a very tough guy who comes to win."
Mayweather, who improved his record to 48-0 after scoring a unanimous decision win against Manny Pacquiao last month, will reportedly return to the ring on September 12, which could also be his farewell fight.
Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe said he has yet to talk to the 38-year-old about his next opponent. He also insisted that the decision will be made and will be announced by Mayweather alone.
"Floyd will determine who he fights and when he fights and no one will rush his decision," Ellerbe said via MLive. "He'll make up his mind who he's fighting, if he's fighting, and we'll go from there. And that decision will be made not one day before he's ready to make it."
Pacquiao and Top Rank Promotions CEO Bob Arum are also pushing for a rematch against Mayweather, but the Filipino boxing icon will not be available to fight in September as he is still recovering from a shoulder surgery.
