Former LGBT Activist Mobilizes Grassroots 1tim2:2 Prayer Project with Call to Bless Our President

Mark Olson, a former LGBT activist, announces the 1tim2:2 Project, a grassroots effort based on 1 Timothy 2:2, to mobilize prayer to bless our president and leaders in government. The project website, www.1tim22.com, features 3,166 free prayer guides, one for every county in the nation. Each county prayer guide is customized to help Christians pray for their specific leaders in government by name.

1 Timothy 2:2 states that, "first of all," we are to give thanks for, and bless in prayer, all of our leaders in government. Olson says that, "If we, Christians, can't consistently follow one of the clearest commands of scripture, we really don't have any reason to be dabbling in any other political action. Frankly, over the last six years, too many of the words spoken by Christian leaders and politicians over President Barack Obama have been outright embarrassing and certainly not consistent with scripture. We, the church, have some serious repenting to do."

Olson adds, "The instructions of scripture in 1 Timothy 2 or Romans 13 are not altered by whether or not America was founded as a Christian nation. As a Christian, my obedience is to the word of God. His word is eternally fixed and is certainly not altered by the foundations or current state of American politics."

The 1tim2:2 Project is unique as, Olson further describes, "This isn't a one-off stadium prayer event. A true grassroots effort is about sustained follow through in our homes and churches. If a Christian can't name their state legislators or governor, it is a pretty good bet they aren't consistently praying for their leaders. Our goal is to help make it easy to follow 1 Timothy 2."

Olson hopes to expand the project by further developing the prayer guides as well as helping local churches and communities develop sustained prayer for our leaders in government. The project is seeking 3,166 Christians, the same as the number of county prayer guides, to help sponsor the project.
