AT&T is getting ready to launch Samsung's gigantic tablet, the Galaxy View, on November 20.
In addition, the network carrier will bundle the tablet with its DirecTV service for only $99.
At its size, the Galaxy View will be the largest tablet released by Samsung. With a full HD display at 18.4-inches, the Galaxy View dwarfs Apple's 12.9-inch iPad Pro, which is already considered large in terms of industry standards, 9to5Google reported.
Samsung's tablet is so big that others are already referring to it as a television. It seems both AT&T and the South Korean tech firm also consider the Galaxy View as a TV specifically since it was designed as an entertainment device. Also, with a DirecTV bundle, AT&T wants to further amp up the TV-appeal of the Galaxy View.
"The Samsung Galaxy View is the best parts of a TV and tablet, designed with entertainment as its primary focus," AT&T's Senior Vice President for Device Marketing and Developer Services Jeff Bradley said in a press release.
"We know our customers are watching video in ways they never used to, and with this tablet you can shift where and when content is consumed," the executive added. "No other Samsung device provides this combination of integrated entertainment experience and value."
As for its features, the Galaxy View tablet from Samsung is powered by the company's own Exynos 7580 chipset with 1.6GHz octa-core Cortex-A53 CPU. It packs 2GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage which can be expanded. The device houses a 2.1-megapixel camera at the front and runs on a 5,700 mAh battery. The tablet's operating system is based on the Android 5.1 Lollipop.
Also, due to its massive size, Samsung added another feature so users will not have to hold it with their hands while they're using it. For practical purposes, the company included a built-in kickstand on the back of the tablet so it can be propped up for easier viewing and reading activities.
Consumers, however, will only be able to get their hands on the Galaxy View at this price if they sign up for AT&T's DirecTV service for an additional two-year contract, according to GSM Arena. For those who are already subscribers of this service, they can still get the massive tablet for $99 if they add a new smartphone line through the carrier's Next program.
But, for consumers who just want the tablet and not the DirecTV service, they will have to shell out $499.99 for the Samsung Galaxy View with a two year contract.
