Another new and interesting character has just been cast for "Game of Thrones" season 6, and he is none other than the pirate Euron Greyjoy.
It has long been rumored that the Greyjoy family will be playing a meatier role come the next season, and now that Euron Greyjoy's involvement has finally been confirmed, it looks like the rumors are true. According to Cinema Blend, the character will be played by Pilou Asbæk, a Danish actor who has appeared in the film "Lucy" and the television series "The Borgias."
The news about Euron Greyjoy's involvement in "Game of Thrones" started circulating several months ago, with Watchers on the Wall sharing the casting call for a "pirate, man in his 40's to late 50's. He's an infamous pirate who has terrorized seas all around the world. Cunning, ruthless, with a touch of madness. He's a dangerous-looking man. A very good part this season."
The same spoiler website said that HBO has not officially confirmed casting Euron Greyjoy, although they have noted that Pilou Asbæk was spotted shooting a scene around Ballintoy Harbor and it involved a crowd cheering for Euron.
There are other scenes that have been shot recently featuring the Greyjoys, including a Kingsmoot-otherwise known as a ceremony in the Iron Islands to choose who will rule-with Yara and a potential character who could be other Greyjoy brother Aeron also present.
Granted, Asbæk is a little young for the casting requirement of Euron Greyjoy, but he really fits the other physical description of the terrifying pirate. In the books, Euron Greyjoy is known for sporting an eyepatch and he has a devilish appearance. Known for his cunning and heartlessness, his ship is even called "Silence" because its crew members all had their tongues cut out before they start working on the ship.
Exciting things are in store for "Game of Thrones" season 6 now that Stannis Baratheon and his army have now been defeated, Arya Stark lost her eyesight while her sister Sansa Stark and Theon Greyjoy have escaped from Ramsay Bolton. Khaleesi is stranded somewhere with Drogon, with Tyrion Lannister left to rule Meereen on her behalf. Cersei Lannister wants revenge for her Walk of Shame and her brother Jamie is on the way home with devastating news - their daughter Myrcella is dead. Brandon Stark's storyline will be back, while Jon Snow's true fate - dead or not - will finally be revealed.
