If "Game of Thrones" were set during modern times, then Margaery Tyrell might just give Kim Kardashian a run for her money.
At least, that is what Natalie Dormer, the actress who plays the beautiful and ambitious character believes. In an interview with Express UK, Dormer described Margaery as "the most modern of all the characters in 'Game of Thrones.'"
"She is very much a PR genius. Now she would be one of those It girls, tweeting and Instagramming their latest dresses and raising money for orphanages by running half-marathons. She'd be rivalling Kim Kardashian for numbers of followers on Twitter and Instagram!" she added.
During season 5 of "Game of Thrones," Margaery was outwitted by her mother-in-law Cersei Lannister and was locked up in prison for lying about her brother's personal indiscretions. Cersei has always been jealous of Margaery's youth and popularity among the masses, but it was a whole different playing field when Margaery won the love and devotion of Cersei's son Tommen, who is the complete opposite of his brother, the sadistic and heartless Joffrey Barratheon.
Dormer feels grateful to have been given the opportunity to play one of the most interesting characters in arguably one of the most popular show in the world, and she would not trade the experience for anything.
"'Thrones' has helped us all. You'd be hard pressed to find anyone in that cast who hasn't had a great springboard from the show. It's given us all a boost. We bring something to 'Thrones' and 'Thrones' brings something to us. It's the perfect marriage," she said.
"Game of Thrones" is not the only television series Dormer has in her acting career. She actually played another beautiful and ambitious woman in a period piece - Anne Boleyn in "The Tudors." As Irene Adler in "Elementary," Dormer plays Sherlock Holmes' intelligent and resourceful love interest. In "The Hunger Games" film, Dormer plays director Cressida, and she sports a fierce look replete with a shaved head and tattooed vines.
Given the amazing characters she portrayed, Dormer is often approached by fans, all wanting to know more about her work. "People come up to me all the time and want to talk about lots of things - 'Game of Thrones,' 'Hunger Games,' 'The Tudors,' or 'Elementary," she revealed. "I've worked with a broad cross section of brilliant writers and directors. Long may that continue! I've got my fingers crossed. I'm a very lucky girl!"
