While the premiere date for "Game of Thrones' season six has not yet been announced by HBO, the hit series' first image and trailer have brought on a flurry of speculations about major storylines, including the possibility of Jon Snow (Kit Harington) being the son of Rhaegar Targaryen (Daenerys' brother) and Lyanna Stark (Ned Stark's sister).
The scarcity of details when it comes to Jon's parentage has become one of the most debated issues among "Game of Thrones' fans, and it has long been speculated that the late Ned Stark (Sean Bean) is not Jon's real father.
The names of several characters have already come up in various theories about Jon's real mother, but the most popular speculation is that Harington's character is the child of Rhaegar and Lyanna, thus the theory being nicknamed as R + L = J.
One "Game of Thrones' fan, Robbie McD, came up with a compilation of all the evidence from the fantasy drama series, supporting the theory that Jon might actually be related to Ned Stark but not in the manner that Bean's character insists.
Characters in Westeros often place emphasis on Ned's sense of honor, which has been one of the possible signs since the first season that Jon may not be his illegitimate son.
By refusing to tell anyone the name of Jon's mother, Ned could only seem to confirm the popular R + L theory. Even the nature of Rhaegar and Lyanna's relationship can point towards an offspring, with even Sansa Stark knowing that her aunt was raped by the Targaryen prince.
According to the George R.R. Martin's book series, "A Song of Ice and Fire' on which the hit HBO series is based, Lyanna asked Ned to make a promise on her deathbed.
This has led fans to speculate that this could be her request for her brother to raise her son as his own. If such is the actual event, this would make Jon a nephew to Daenerys, making him a possible heir to the iron throne.
Meanwhile, a first glimpse of the sixth season was offered by the new "Game of Thrones' trailer, with Max von Sydow being heard in a voiceover as the Three-Eyed Raven, saying: "We watch, we listen, and we remember. The past is already written, the ink is dry."
"Game of Thrones' season six is set to premiere in April 2016.
