God's Image, a Korean American worship dance ministry for youth and children, hosted a performance on Saturday in celebration of its 25th anniversary at the La Mirada Performing Arts Center, during which the ministry also made a $4,000 donation to Good Neighbors USA to build clean water wells in Zambia.
God's Image has partnered with Good Neighbors USA, a non-profit that focuses on providing clean water to impoverished communities, as its public ambassador and has held numerous fundraiser performances to build four clean water wells in Chad thus far. This recent donation to build wells in Zambia was raised through contributions of God's Image members and their families.
Some 220 children and youth performed at the 25th anniversary performance in front of a 2,000 plus audience.
"The members of God's Image are thankful that we have this relationship with Good Neighbors," said God's Image in a statement. "As Good Neighbors' public ambassador, we are able to bring awareness to the situations that many impoverished children are forced to live in, and we are also able to be a part in providing physical resources to help them."
Good Neighbors USA has been focusing on building clean water wells since 2009, and has thus far built 251 new water wells in various countries including Chad, Malawi, Zambia, and the Dominican Republic. Various steps are required to build one water well, including researching the community's environmental situation, educating the community members, and installing the pump system, and takes about some three to six months to complete the process. However, hundreds of people in the community are able to reap the benefits of one clean water well. The villagers are no longer exposed to diseases from unclean water, and children who once had to spend most of their time traveling long distances to fetch clean water now can spend that time to go to school.
