With director James Gunn announcing the completion of the first draft for the "Guardians of the Galaxy' sequel several weeks ago, speculations about its possible title went viral online.
It may not have been one of the most well-kept secrets during the past months, but fans can now be reassured that the follow-up film to last year's blockbuster hit will be titled "Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2.'
Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige accidentally revealed the title in an interview with Collider during a junket for "Ant-Man' this weekend.
"We start shooting "Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2' in February to March 2016," he told the movie site.
Fans and movie journalists alike had been trying to find out about the sequel's title ever since Gunn shared a photo of the first page of such script along with his name, although the part where the title should be was cut out.
The director added the following caption: "Phew. After 48 days straight without a day off, the first draft of ?#"ŽGotG2 is done. I'm sorry to all my friends and family who I have ignored."
Gunn himself confirmed the title of the second installment in a tweet last Monday, sharing a congratulatory message to Collider for exposing such detail.
The title is also similar to the first film's hit soundtrack, "Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Mix Vol. 1.'
The first movie became a record-breaking Marvel Cinematic Universe film in 2014 that starred Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana and Dave Bautista, among others. Announcements relating to the sequel's plot are yet to be announced, although Gunn replied to a comment on his Facebook page that he was given creative freedom to create the plot.
"I told Marvel what I wanted to do, and they said okay. They gave me nothing. That said, I already know where things are basically going. But the important thing to me is "GotG2' only right now - making it a great movie," Gunn wrote.
Pratt will be returning for his role Peter Quill aka Star Lord and has already confirmed his comeback in the sequel as he stated in an interview with GQ.
"I'm tied to doing three more, or five more, "Guardians of the Galaxy,' or whatever it is, you know, two more "Guardians' plus another couple," the 36-year-old actor said.
He even shared about getting teary-eyed after Gunn told him about the sequel's plot.
Moreover, in an interview with Digital Spy, Pratt opened up about how much he was impressed with the script.
"It is so good, it's so good. And I cannot wait to get started on it and I cannot wait for people to see what he's going to pull off with the second movie. It's so, so big and so good," Anna Faris' husband shared.
"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2' has been set for an official release on May 5, 2017.
