"How to Get Away With Murder" is a clever show that masterfully blends flashbacks and flash forwards to perfection, so when season 2's flash forward was presented, it definitely caused a ripple effect of suspense and curiosity.
The shocking flash forward showed brilliant law professor Annalise Keating (Viola Davis) shot in the Hapstall mansion two months down the line, and her perpetrator remains a mystery.
Alfred Enoch, the actor who portrays her student Wes Gibbins suspects that his character is responsible for the shooting. "Why not?" he told Entertainment Weekly.
But if it's true, Davis said that "it's going to break my heart."
It's very obvious that Wes idolizes Professor Keating and relies on her to make the tough calls, but when season 2 returns, his admiration has turned into contempt, especially now that his girlfriend Rebecca (Katie Findlay) has gone missing.
Of course, Annalise knows the truth about Rebecca's disappearance. As seen in the season finale, Rebecca is not missing, but rather dead - killed by Bonnie (Liza Weil), no less.
"That's going to be a nightmare situation for Bonnie, for Annalise, for the house," Enoch said of the new development. "That's awful. She was the most important person in his life and he killed someone to protect her. If someone took her away, I'm intrigued to see what happens there."
Annalise and Bonnie's relationship has always been unsteady. From the very start, Annalise has kept Bonnie down, and Bonnie has entertained thoughts of leaving her boss, but she always keeps coming back to Annalise.
It is very possible that she's finally had her fill of Annalise and shot her in anger. Plus, Annalise knows Bonnie's secret of murdering Rebecca, so maybe Bonnie shot her to keep her quiet.
Weil agrees that this could be the case, and notes that her character has somewhat gone unhinged in the new season.
"Bonnie mainly operates from a place of really needing to protect that kind of family dynamic," said Weil. "We're going to get into those ramifications really quickly. In episode 2, we'll definitely see the beginnings of that and that's going to continue to evolve as the season goes on."
Series creator Pete Norwalk earlier weighed in on Wes' psyche, saying that he might be devastated about Rebecca's lies and disappearance, but he's certain "he can come back from it."
"How that looks and who he turns into-to me, the conflict is: Can he stay the puppy? Can he want to see good in the world anymore, or is he just now totally scarred and cynical and turning more into Annalise? Has he seen too much?" he said.
