Last year, HTC launched its One M8 flagship to the delight of its fans, as well as millions of other Android fans in the world. Indeed, the company performed well in the second quarter of that year.
However, in following reports, HTC's success cannot be solely attributed to the One M8, which actually came out under fire for its sub-par 4MP UltraPixel main camera. Reports indicated that it was HTC's midrange Desire lineup that garnered more attention due to its stylish design, respectable specs, and a much cheaper price tag.
This year, it looks like the Taiwanese brand will once again bank on its midrange lineup.
According to a report by GSM Arena, HTC has just launched the Desire 626 in its home market in Taiwan. In the report, the device only costs NT5,990 or just around $190.
The Desire 626 will cater to most of users' needs. In the report, the device packs a 5-inch IPS display with HD (1280 x 720) resolution, 1GB of RAM, and a 64-bit enabled Snapdragon 410 chipset.
Other specs include a quad-core Cortex-A53 CPU clocked at 1.2GHz each, a 16GB internal memory and a microSD card slot for storage expansion.
However, the Desire 626 shines in the camera department, highlighted by a 13MP primary camera with a BSI sensor, and f/2.2 aperture and can record 1080p clips. The selfie shooter is also note-worthy with its 5MP resolution and 1080p video recording feature as well.
The Desire 626 also comes with dual front speakers for maximum audio quality, and the usual connectivity options such as Bluetooth 4.0, a single-band Wi-Fi 802.11n with DLNA, and LTE bands 1, 3, 5, 7, 8 and 28.
The Android-powered handset is powered by a 2,000mAh battery which reportedly promises battery life of up to 30 hours of 3G talk time, and 760 hours of power on standby.
The device, which has already appeared in some online forums and reports the past few days will reportedly arrive in several color options, including dark blue and white.
The HTC Desire 626 is said to be the Taiwanese brand's preparation for the upcoming Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, where it will unveil its latest One M9 flagship. Some rumored specs of the high-powered Android device include a 16MP/20MP primary camera, 5-inch QHD display, 3GB of RAM, a Snapdragon 810 chipset, and even a fingerprint scanner similar to that of the One max in 2013.
