For the past few weeks, the Internet has been going crazy regarding the latest rumors and reports about upcoming Android smartphones, most of which would be unveiled more than a month from now.
One of these most-awaited handsets is HTC's One M9, which has been referred to under the codename HTC Hima. In fact, several allegedly leaked images have already surfaced claiming some features and specs of the new Android flagship.
Unfortunately, in a new report by Phone Arena, the leaked images and prototype shots of the One M9 are reportedly decoys.
In the report by HTC Source and Android and Me, the images are not the actual photos of the One M9 prototype. While the publications did not reveal any images to 'replace' the leaked photos, they claim that the front camera of the new high-end phone looks similar to that of the Desire 826, which was announced back at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas earlier this month.
Upon seeing the alleged 'decoy' images, critics and some consumers have been quick to criticize HTC for its lack of innovation in terms of design. However, Phone Arena's sources point out that in 2013, leaked decoy images were also released by the Taiwanese manufacturer before the One M7 was announced.
Moreover, the sources claim that the new HTC One M9 will feature an edge to edge display, as well as BoomSound 'slits' and not grills. The 'slits' will reportedly be placed at the top and bottom parts of the smartphone.
Since 2011, HTC has continued to lose market share against the heavyweights in the Android world. Samsung, LG, Sony, and even Motorola has continued to get their share of the pie.
In emerging markets such as China and its neighboring countries, more consumers are opting for affordable options, such as those offered by Huawei, Lenovo, Xiaomi and other local brands.
Fortunately, the last quarter of 2014 was an improvement for HTC as it marked the first time in almost three years that it did not post a loss in a quarter. However, sales and profit for the whole of 2014 is a different story.
