Many owners of the HTC One M9 are reporting that after updating their devices to the latest firmware version, they experienced slower charging times.
According to various sources, the software update version 1.40.401.8 is causing devices to take as long as 13 hours before reaching a full charge, Uber Gizmo has learned.
The firmware update was released by HTC for its flagship handset earlier in June. As explained by the company, the update was designed to improve the device's camera features and battery life.
HTC noted that through the update, the One M9's battery will stay cooler when charging. It will also consume less power when running popular apps such as YouTube and Facebook.
However, less than a month after the update was rolled out, One M9 users started experiencing problems with their devices. Specifically, they complained that after updating their handsets, their charging times became longer.
Even when using HTC's stock charger, which the company claims can fully charge the smartphone in about 100 minutes, some users said they waited up to 13 hours before they were able to unplug their devices.
Fortunately, HTC is already aware of the matter and has offered a temporary fix for the problem. Through the company's U.K. Twitter account, HTC said that uninstalling the Google Photos app can fix the device's charging issue.
If that doesn't work, users are advised to delete the cache or simultaneously hold down the Power and Volume Up buttons for 15 to 30 seconds to restart the device. These should be done right before plugging the device to its charger, according to Tech Radar.
The charging issue caused by the software update for the One M9 is the latest problem plaguing HTC. This week, after releasing the financial results for this year's second quarter, the company admitted that it is struggling to maintain its high revenue goal, Android Headlines reported.
