HTC One M9 Updates & Specs: Version 1.40 Update to Boost Flagship Handset’ Battery Life

HTC One M9

Taiwanese smartphone maker HTC is working on release a software update for its One M9 flagship device.

Dubbed as Version 1.40, the update is being designed to improve the battery life of the smartphone, according to Ubergizmo.

When the HTC One M9 was first released in April of this year, it came with a 2,840 mAh battery, which is a step-up from its predecessor's 2,600 mAh battery pack. Although it has a bigger battery capacity, many One M9 users complained that it drains at a much faster rate compared to the One M8.

Tests conducted on the One M9 by PCMark revealed that the handset can be used for around five hours and 12 minutes on a single charge. The One M8, on the other hand, lasted for five hours and 48 minutes.

Similar tests conducted by Geekbench revealed almost similar results, but with the One M8 beating its successor by more than two hours in terms of battery life, Greenbot has learned.

Since the current flagship device's battery has a bigger capacity rating than that of its predecessor, the problem may be rooted in the One M9's software optimization.

As a solution, HTC has ordered its tech engineers to work on an update that will hopefully solve the issue.

Through the software update, the handset's baseband will be upgraded to version 1.40.

Based on a screenshot leaked by tech insider LlabTooFeR, the update will allow users to use their One M9 device for more than a day on a single full charge.

There are no details yet as to when Version 1.40 will be released by HTC to the general public. But according to Master Herald, One M9 users in Taiwan are already starting to receive the update. Hopefully, the company will unveil the software update to other users in different regions within the next few days or weeks.
