After years of waiting, HTC may finally announce its very own smartwatch to compete with its Android rivals such as Samsung, Sony, LG and Motorola.
However, in a recent report, it appears the HTC Smartwatch would have one particular feature that other brands lack - an impressive battery life.
According to a report by Techno Buffalo, the Taiwanese manufacturer will boast an impressive three-day battery life, which is only a dream for most smartwatches today.
In the report, reliable leaker @upleaks mentioned that HTC's smartwatch would possibly be unveiled during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on March 2.
Moreover, the device apparently would not run on Android Wear like most of its pears, but a separate operating system. Interestingly, the leaker claims that the HTC Smartwatch would be able to connect to both Android and iOS-powered handsets.
The smartwatch's alleged veering away from Android is reportedly due to HTC's new partnership with Under Armour, a fitness clothing company. As mentioned in a separate report, the two would be offering a platform that is focused on fitness and productivity.
The HTC Smartwatch, reportedly dubbed as Petra, will feature some apps such as alarm, timer, sleep tracker, weather updates, music and camera controls, notification center, and the ability to track its user's steps.
Aside from the usual smartwatch features, the HTC device would reportedly pack a 1.8-inch flexible display - another first among its Android Wear-powered competitors. GPS, Bluetooth, water resistance, and the rumored three-day battery life are also included.
While the three-day battery life is certainly promising, and has already captured the attention of wearable device lovers, it would be interesting how HTC would pack such a huge battery in a small device.
Since Sony launched the first smartwatch to start the battle for wearable device supremacy, experts expected HTC to follow the trend shortly. However, two more years passed before the Taiwan-based manufacturer will finally announce its own. Other brands that have joined the smartwatch revolution last year include Motorola (Moto 360), LG (G Watch, G Watch R), and Samsung's multiple Galaxy Gear versions.
Apple has also joined the party with the announcement of the Apple Watch late last year. However, there is still no concrete date when the device would hit the market.
HTC is expected to develop a unique and stylish design for the smartwatch, just like what it is doing with its current smartphones. If it is able to pull off its big and lasting battery, it may be the biggest winner at the MWC in March.
