The election results are in and final. The current bid for the presidential "lottery" which had a 240million (winning citizen count) tag was won by Joko Widodo, a self-made man who had his life's history combination of 1, 5, 6, 20, 22, 53. While far from the real world commercial lottery proceedings, his victory is just like any jackpot prize winner, only in this case, the people of Indonesia have decided for him. Here are the numbers in no particular order.
1 - One man emerged as the next president of the Indonesian archipelago, to lead the 250 million-strong population for the next term. Coming from a non-elite circle in politics, this man had been Jakarta's Governor, but not before being an ordinary law-abiding citizen working as a furniture maker and dealer.
5 - He is now the 5th president in a democratic ruling government after the autocratic period under former leader Suharto. Faced with the challenge of being a "newcomer" to the elite coalition still in government, he has indicated that it would be the people who would be able to determine of how well he would be able to blend in his new political environment.
6 - His victory over other presidential candidate and former general Prabowo Subianto was a 6% margin. Even if the percentage is small in face value, it translates to about 8.4million vote's difference for the two candidates. The former general has appealed in court in regards to the outcome of the elections, but the court has just recently decided in favor of now president elect Widodo.
20 - After a final ruling by the supreme court from the appeal made by former general Subianto, the 9 judges' final verdict was sealed and became binding. With the case now formally closed, the former governor of Jakarta and now president Joko Widodo is scheduled to formally transfer office by next month, October 20th.
22 - The peoples' president was first declared on July 22, 2014. Despite the initial declaration of the electoral turnout, it was promptly intercepted by an appeal from the other presidential candidate, as well as protested by the latter's supporters.
53 - Now aged 53 years old, President Joko Widodo is set to rule the world's third largest democracy for the next 5 years. With the rest of the international community watching over how this new order of events would unfold for the newly elected president, president Widodo is faced with the big league of politics, and hopefully brings the country into new levels of progress.
