The upcoming Pixar movie, titled Inside Out, will mark the return of the company in creating original films as fans and followers of the studio were disappointed last year with the absence of a new movie and an influx of sequels. In an interview with Coming Soon, Inside Out director, Pete Docter, and producer, Jonas Rivera, provided the press with a sneak peek of the exciting new project.
The film centers around the life of an 11-year-old girl named Riley, voiced by Kaitlyn Dias. The movie features the child's five emotions, namely, Joy, Fear, Anger, Disgust, and Sadness, and how these come into play in her everyday life including her interactions with her parents and peers. The 56-minute clip showed by Docter and Rivera indicated that the five emotions were generally headed by Joy, a character voiced by comedienne Amy Poehler. However, Phyllis Smith's character, Sadness, gradually takes over Riley's feelings as the young girl attempts to adjust to the changes around her. Disgust, voiced by Mindy Kaling of The Mindy Project, and Fear, brought to life by Bill Hader of The Skeleton Twins, played major roles in the kid's life as well. As for Anger, voiced by Lewis Black from Comedy Warriors: Healing through Humor, the audience will be thrilled to see the special effects particularly designed for this character.
To provide a brief background of the characters and plot, Docter and Rivera explained that the two aspects were based on the experiences and observations of the former's own daughter. Upon seeing how emotions came into play in Docter's child's life, both Inside Out director and producer decided to pursue additional research in an effort to narrow down the feelings to be included in the film. Although the film features very colorful and fun-looking characters, their creators insist that the plot delves into deeper issues such as the manner by which children adapts to their environments and how emotional factors come into play in the development of their personalities.
In the movie, it was shown that Joy entered the picture when Riley smiles for the first time. Meanwhile, Disgust popped in when a younger version of the girl was fed with broccoli. The other emotions surface as Riley continues to deal with changes brought about by her parents' decisions including their move from Minnesota to San Francisco. Initially, Joy is the leader of the Headquarters where all the emotions are stored. However, the others become more dominant as Riley attempts to adjust to the things occurring around her. Sadness eventually plays a major role as the kid breaks down into tears after getting in a new school.
Inside Out is scheduled to hit the big screen on June 19, 2015.
