The one thing that former 007 actor Pierce Brosnan did not like about Daniel Craig's latest movie "James Bond: Spectre" was that it was too long at two hours and 30 minutes.
"I was looking forward to it enormously," Brosnan told HitFix about the 24th Bond film. "I thought it was too long. The story was kind of weak - it could have been condensed. It kind of went on too long. It really did."
Brosnan, who portrayed Bond in four films from 1995 to 2002 might not have appreciated the movie in its entirety, but he has nothing but praises for its lead star.
"('Spectre') is neither fish nor fowl. It's neither Bond nor Bourne. Am I in a Bond movie? Not in a Bond movie?" Brosnan said. "But Daniel, in the fourth go-round, has ownership of it. He had a nice looseness to him."
It seems like Brosnan cannot rave about Craig enough, and he continued to shower the "Spectre" actor.
"He's a mighty warrior, and I think he found a great sense of himself in this one with the one-liners and a nice playfulness there. Just get a tighter story, and he'll have another classic," he said.
As to the comments made by Craig about rather "slashing my wrists" than to portray James Bond again for another film, Brosnan asked critics to extend the actor more understanding.
"I think the guy was just fairly banjaxed by playing it. By the time you finish making a Bond movie, you don't want to hear the name, see the name or have anything to do with it because you just want to go to ground," he said.
Brosnan is pretty sure that once Craig gets his well-deserved break, he will be eager to get back to work once again.
"Give him another year off here, and he'll be ready to rock and roll for sure," guaranteed Brosnan.
The Irish actor has a great grasp of Craig's personality, since the "Spectre" star earlier told The Belfast Telegraph that he values his personal life more than anything.
"I'm actually the kind of guy who shies away from publicity. My private life is the most important thing for me and I always plan to keep it that way," he said.
Even though he might not be back as Bond for the 25th film in the franchise, Craig is certain that the character will still be a huge hit among fans.
"I think the world needs James Bond," he reasoned. "With or without me, Bond will live on! The films are huge events that fans can't wait for."
