Jill Duggar of 19 Kids and Counting is quite impressed with her husband Derick Dillard's baby skills, and that's saying a lot given the fact that Derick has never changed a diaper his entire life!
Despite his inexperience, Derick is handling their first-born son Israel David like a "pro," Jill told PEOPLE, and she added that he is already "doing amazing at being a dad."
Just two hours after Israel David was born, Derick changed his son's diaper and even gave him his first bath and burped the baby.
"I have a really steep learning curve, but I think I'm catching on fast!" said Derick.
Derick is smiling from ear to ear ever since his son was born, and even though he is eager and excited to fulfil his role as a faher, his energy is getting sapped. The new father even jokingly said that he no longer knows whether it is day or night.
"I'm a little bit exhausted," he admitted.
Derick has had his hands full ever since his wife got pregnant, but he is not complaining. In fact, the only thing Derick wanted to do is shower his wife with love. Right before Jill's first due date, which was on March 24, Derick even helped Jill relax.
"He is so sweet," Jill told PEOPLE. "He is doing amazing. He gave me a foot massage and painted my nails last night He asked me what color I wanted, and we decided on pink nails. He picked out a bright pink and he said, 'Here we go - this will be your labor color.'"
Jill's next due date was on April 5 but Israel David, who has already been nicknamed Baby Dilly, wanted to stay put a little bit longer and decided to come out a day after.
Despite being late, Jill and Derick were not the least bit worried. Jill already instructed herself not to worry since it is perfectly normal for babies to come late which she should know because of her work as a midwife. In fact, Jill has helped deliver around 30 babies already!
So when people asked her before when Baby Dilly would be arriving, her answer was: "The baby will come when the baby comes."
While she was carrying Baby Dilly, Jill was also studying to be a full-fledged midwife, and the young reality star said that studying about pregnancy and childbirth became more meaningful now that she is experiencing it herself.
