The shocking result of UFC 194, which saw Jose Aldo get knocked down by Conor McGregor, stunned fans and followers of the sport worldwide. Moreover, the feat was achieved by the perceived underdog in just 13 seconds. That is, McGregor managed to undo the months of training of Aldo in a blink of an eye. However, Aldo is not a widely renowned champion for no reason. The Brazilian fighter is now calling for an immediate rematch to redeem his name and regain his lost title.
"It still is too hard to digest," shared Aldo via Combate, according to MMA Fighting. He added, "We trained hard, did everything right, and the result wasn't positive. It takes a while for us to digest, but it's part (of the sport). It's a sport and we have to accept." Aldo then shared that the 13-second face off with The Notorious could not be considered a legitimate fight.
"So, there wasn't even a fight, right? Only 13 seconds," the Brazilian MMA fighter said. He went on to say, "And I also remember when I came in, how I tried to punch. But, man, it's hard to say know if it's (his) success or (my) mistake. It's a quick decision, and he was able to connect a good punch when I tried a combination."
Aldo revealed that he and his team already discussed things with UFC President Dana White. He shared that he believes he deserves another chance at beating McGregor. According to Aldo, he has the "right" to have the rematch. Apart from himself, the former UFC champ deem it fitting to avenge his title out of respect for his career and his accomplishments in the sport.
"It wasn't this time, but we will come out victorious, for sure," Aldo said. He shared, "It's a sport, we have to accept. Not only from wins you live your life. That makes us stronger. Way stronger. You can be sure that we will come back stronger, more champion than I was before."
For his part, McGregor is aiming for a higher pay and grander fights. According to the new UFC Featherweight champion, he is eyeing the possibility of beating the record set by the face off between Manny Pacquaio and Floyd Mayweather, Jr in May this year.
"I said to Lorenzo (Fertitta) and I said to Dana (White), I'm bringing these big numbers, I'm bringing these half-a-billion-dollar revenue numbers, like the Mayweather/Pacquaio fight done," shared McGregor via Fox Sports. He added, "At 27 years of age, I stand here as the unified world champion, back-to-back gate records in the MGM, this is trending as the highest pay-per-view (Dave) Sholler, I believe said, of all time for the UFC, so at 27 years of age with every record in the book, with weight divisions above ready for me to go at, super fights left and right, tell me one other champion that's been like that. Every other champion gets a belt and they don't want to go up or they don't want to go down, I'm going straight up. I'm bringing these big numbers and the sky's the limit."
