Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. wants to become a world champion again and is eyeing showdown with super middleweight champions Badou Jack and James DeGale.
Chavez, who owns a 49-2-1 record with 32 knockout victories, said that he and his camp are trying to iron out a title bout against Jack, the reigning World Boxing Council middleweight champion, in March or April.
Chavez said that he wants to silence his doubters by proving that he has matured a lot since losing to Andrzej Fonfara in April and by becoming the first Mexican to win a super middleweight title.
"Perhaps I will have the opportunity to challenge for the super middleweight title against Badou Jack," Chavez told BoxingScene. "It could done in the month of March or April. I'm mature and willing to offer the best version Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. I know what I want and need, I'll focus on that."
Chavez, who is a former middleweight champion, is coming off a unanimous decision win against Marcos Reyes during their 10-round bout in July. The 29-year-old suffered a hand injury during the bout but recent reports indicated that he will be ready to fight again in the first quarter of next year.
Aside from Jack, Chavez also revealed that he is willing to collide with DeGale, who is the reigning International Boxing Federation super middleweight champion, if the bout against Jack will not happen.
"Jack remains as the first choice, he's a very good option. But if there is a fight with DeGale, it's a big fight, he is a good champion, and whichever of the two I'd welcome because it's a fight for the world championship," Chavez told ESPN Deportes, when asked about his options for his next fight.
Chavez also recently revealed he will continue to train under Robert Garcia. He admitted that he and his camp talked to Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach about a possible reunion but he eventually decided to retain Garcia and give the veteran coach more time to work with him.
Garcia trained Chavez for five weeks before the victory against Reyes. For his next fight, Chavez said that Garcia will be in charge for more than two months, which will give them more time to prepare a perfect fight plan.
