The legend of King Arthur once again graces the big screen as Guy Ritchie attempts to take on the famed story and turn it into a masterpiece of his own, according to Screen Rant.
In an announcement made by Warner Bros. Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures, fans and followers of both the well known tale and its characters were informed that the filming for the highly anticipated film already began. The executives revealed that the filming will mainly be done in the United Kingdom, specifically in the Warner Bros. Studios in Leavesden. The other portions of the movie will be shot on location, which may take place in either Wales and Scotland.
The same news was later on confirmed by Ritchie himself via a Twitter post on Tuesday. The picture showed Ritchie with the film's leading man, Charlie Hunnam, and was captioned, "First day on KORT." According to the report, KORT was presumed to mean Knights Of The Round Table. Moreover, earlier reports revealed that Hunnam was casted as King Arthur.
The synopsis for the upcoming film describes Hunnam's character as a "streetwise young Arthur." He will be featured initially hanging out with his gang in the "back alleys of Londonium." His life then takes an unexpected turn when "he grasps hold of the sword Excalibur."
"Instantly challenged by the power of Excalibur, Arthur is forced to make some hard choices. Throwing in with the Resistance and a mysterious young woman named Guinevere, he must learn to master the sword, face down his demons and unite the people to defeat the tyrant Vortigern, who stole his crown and murdered his parents, and become King," the summary further read.
Prior to this role, the English actor has been a staple presence in the small screen with notable performances in hit television shows such as Sons of Anarchy, Undeclared, and Young Americans. Meanwhile, his big screen credits include blockbuster films like Pacific Rim, Green Street Hooligans, Nicholas Nickleby, and Cold Mountain.
Knights of the Round Table: King Arthur will hit theaters on July 22, 2016. However, Ritchie has another exciting project set this year as he also served as the director for the film The Man From U.N.C.L.E., which stars Henry Cavill and Alicia Vikander. The director's previous works include widely acclaimed films such as Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows, Rock 'n Rolla, Sherlock Holmes, and Swept Away. However, Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels was one of his most notable films to date.
