The Los Angeles Dodgers' wives are planning to participate in a series of outreach events targeting the needy in the city of Los Angeles. They plan to do so with the help of Dream Center, a volunteer-led organization that provides for those in need.

The idea first came about when Ellen Kershaw, the wife of Cy-young award winning National League pitcher Clayton Kershaw, and several other Dodgers' wives expressed a shared desire to expand their outreach to the local community. They ended up joining forces with Dream Center, and last week a dozen wives delivered supplies, used clothing and groceries to mothers living in a housing project near the Dodgers Stadium. They were just in time for Mothers' Day.

Recently, Ellen Kershaw and her husband expanded their grocery deliveries to nearly 200 families in Los Angeles. They even helped with Dream Center's food delivery project which involves trucks delivering groceries to school campuses to families who earn less than 15,000 dollars a year.

Ellen Kershaw told mlb.com that, "Clayton and I believe that it's not only baseball players that have a platform and can make a difference but we all can in one way or another so Clayton and I really want to get fans involved and get us all out into the community and let us all make a difference together."

Heather Howell, the wife of Dodgers pitcher JP Howell also participated in the outreach by taking part in an L.A. marathon to raise awareness that there are so many families in Los Angeles that need help and Dream Center can provide opportunities to help those people.

The Dodgers' Wives services will continue with their outreach events this year through foster care, and participating in Dream Center's Back To School Bash later in August.
