Recently, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints contributed the American Red Cross around $8.7 million to support blood drives, cancer and sickle cell initiatives, and biomedical equipment.

Church of Jesus Christ Donates $8.7M to the American Red Cross
According to the article in KSL, last year, the Church also donated about $5.1M that, enabled the Red Cross further to expand its outreach on the sickle cell disease, enhance blood donation drives, and also to improve their services on blood donation for cancer patients, in which they receive 25% of all the donated blood products in the United States.
The Church also upholds the status of the most significant single blood drive contributor for the Red Cross last year, with over 70,000 donors have participated in 2,000 blood donation drives in the first nine months of 2022.
Gérald Caussé, the Church's presiding bishop, expressed his pleasure in contributing to the American Red Cross and supporting their vital services and programs for those in need. He also thanked the numerous church members who donated their time and blood.
Blaine R. Maxfield, managing director of the Church's Welfare and Self-Reliance Services Department, also gave thanks to the members for their compassionate actions and noted how the mission of the American Red Cross aligns with the Church's efforts to serve others as the Savior would and to demonstrate love for their neighbors.
The Latter-Day Saints were crucial in recruiting blood donors, including 21,000 African-American donors. The Church News has highlighted how incredibly important it is to provide support for those battling sickle cell disease. This condition affects around 100,000 individuals in the United States, predominantly those with African heritage. Additionally, in 2022, the Church funded the Red Cross to buy and set up various biomedical tools, including amicus separators, platelet incubators, blood centrifuges, DNA sequencers, DNA extractors, and a flow cytometer.
Latter-day Saints engaged in 3,692 humanitarian initiatives in 190 countries and territories last year, according to the Church's 2022 Caring for Those in Need annual report, published on March 22. 6.3 million volunteer hours and $1.02 billion in expenses went into these initiatives.

Earlier this year, the Latter-day Saints put its utmost effort into minimizing its water use at its headquarters due to decreased water supply in the Great Salt Lake.
