Leonardo DiCaprio donated US$50,000 to finally give the project of Adrian Grenier to locate an elusive whale the boost it needs to take off, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The project, called Kickstarter project, 52: The Search for the Loneliest Whale, is the HBO star's effort to find the 52-hertz whale known to be the sole creature of its kind existing today. The creature the actor seeks to find is a whale of an unknown species, which has been dubbed as the "world's loneliest whale."

This description came about following the discovery that the whale emits sounds at an unusual and definitely uncommon frequency of 52 Hz, which earned it the name 52-hertz whale. Since most whales usually only emit sounds ranging from 10 to 39 Hz, the "loneliest whale" has yet to find someone to respond to its calls. The 52-hertz whale has been heard across the oceans since the 1980s but no one has actually seen the creature.

"Thank you to the 3,300 backers and the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation for making this science based creative project come to life. These donations validate our ongoing efforts and to get their vote of confidence is a huge moral boost for myself and team Lonely Whale," shared Grenier. "This is just the beginning, and I can't wait to share more news with the community," he added.

Following the news of DiCaprio's donation, Grenier urged the public and his team to strive to surpass the $300,000 mark they just achieved. Evidently, the world listened to the actor's plea as shown in his post the day after.

"So apparently while I was sleeping last night all you @lonelywhale fairies out there were hard at work breaching our Kickstarter well above our goal. We raised $100,000 in the last 24hrs and have settled at $405,937, that's 135% of our goal. I cannot thank you enough," shared Grenier in his official Instagram account.

Grenier has been known for his lead role in the hit television series, Entourage, as well as for other appearances in big screen films such as The Adventures of Sebastian Cole, A.I. Artificial Intelligence, and The Devil Wears Prada.
