"The Revenant" star Leonardo DiCaprio enjoys watching movie sequels, just as long as it's not his own movies. The actor is iffy about continuing the stories he already brought to the big screen because according to him, the movies he made can already stand on their own.
"To me, every movie that I've done has been its own piece of individual art," DiCaprio told Variety. "That's not to say I wouldn't do something that has sequels. Some of the greatest movies in the world - 'The Godfather' - have had sequels. 'The Godfather 2' is fantastic. You read a script, it's got a beginning and an end. It's hard to envision that being resurrected again. It just hasn't happened."
DiCaprio's latest film "The Revenant," which is directed by Alejandro G. Inarittu is already being pegged as a masterpiece even before its official release. But Inarritu teased the actor and said that he might just have to compromise his ideals and start filming his very first sequel.
"We're planning 'The Revenant 2,'" he jokingly said as DiCaprio rolled his eyes. "That would be funny. Pre-production starts tomorrow."
But all kidding aside, DiCaprio places deep value in "The Revenant" simply because of how difficult it was to shoot. "It was the most difficult film, I think, that any of us have ever done," he said.
Pre-production was also difficult, according to the actor, because they rehearsed like a stage production for a long time to make sure they get the core of the movie right.
DiCaprio explained that "we wanted to find the poetry" in the work about a man who hunts down the people who have already left him for dead. The months leading up to the actual filming were so invaluable, said DiCaprio, because his character Hugh Glass does not talk too much in the film.
"It was almost like a silent-movie performance," he reflected.
Even Inarittu had to make sacrifices of his own just to fulfill his directorial duties for "The Revenant."
Inertia shared that they filmed in 30-below temperatures, so "conditions were against us all the time." To make matters worse, the director is not used to the freezing cold weather. "I'm a tropical man from Mexico City," he said. But still, Inarittu insisted on quality performance and would reshoot something if the actors did not get things right.
"The Revenant" will be released on December 25, 2015.
