More than a month after captivating the entire tech world, LG's newest curved smartphone is finally landing to its first international market.
After launching in South Korea by the end of January, the LG G Flex 2 is now headed to Singapore.
According to a report by GSM Arena, the curved handset would make its way to the Asian country beginning February 27, and would be priced at SGD998, or about $800. The pricing remains pretty steep, but with specs such as these, no one can hardly argue.
The LG G Flex 2 boasts a 5.5-inch IPS display that is curved on its top and bottom edges. While the screen is slightly smaller than the previous model, it compensates for it with Full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution.
Running inside the G Flex 2 is a Snapdragon 810 chipset from Qualcomm, either a 2GB/32GB combination or a 3GB/64GB RAM-storage combination. Given the phone's processing power, the G Flex 2 is currently the Korean brand's fastest smartphone. The slightly lower resolution screen (1080p compared to 1440p) will also make the G Flex 2 more battery friendly than previous LG smartphones.
LG is only one of the two new official smartphones that boast the latest chipset from Qualcomm. While other manufacturers such as Sony, HTC, and even Microsoft are likely to follow suit, Samsung may be opting for its own Exynos chipsets to avoid overheating issues.
In the camera department, the phone packs a 13MP primary camera and a 2.1MP front shooter. That combination may be disappointing to some Android and LG fans considering the first G Flex was released with the same amount of resolution.
Other specs include the self-healing back cover, the usual connectivity options such as GPS, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi, and a 3,000mAh battery which should be enough for moderate usage.
In the report, the LG G Flex 2 will first be available for pre-orders in Singapore on the 27th, although the actual arrival of the units would be next month. The G Flex 2 will hit stores in Singapore on March 14. Unfortunately, there are no specific release dates for the UK and the US.
The LG G Flex 2 is probably the first successful smartphone with a curved display to hit the international market. In December 2013, the Korean rivals Samsung and LG released their curved display phones. While Samsung was the first to announce its own handset, it was LG that captured the attention of the mobile world with a device that is truly flexible.
