Kevin Love is continuously being linked to a move out of the Cleveland Cavaliers and talks are expected to intensify as NBA analysts Brian Windhorst revealed the possibility of seeing the All-Star forward in a Los Angeles Lakers uniform.
Windhorst said in a recent ESPN Cleveland podcast that Love, who could become a free agent after the current season, might decide to sign with the Lakers and convince Oklahoma City Thunder star Russell Westbrook to join him in Los Angeles.
"Love enjoys Westbrook," Windhorst said. "They have a relationship. There's a conspiracy theory that exists out there that Kevin Love will go to the Lakers this summer, or next summer, and then Westbrook will join him when he's a free agent."
Windhorst added that the two superstars would love to reunite in Los Angeles. Love and Westbrook played for UCLA in college and the two superstars still enjoy close relationship even if they are playing for different teams.
"They will reunite in LA, like they played for UCLA," Windhorst continued. "The guy, the star player he has the best relationship in the league with is Westbrook."
Earlier this month, Love also expressed support to Westbrook in the NBA MVP race instead of picking teammates LeBron James and Kyrie Irving. Love's pick stirred speculation that Love and James are not having a good relationship in Cleveland.
"I'm going to go with Russell Westbrook because every single night you're looking at his stat sheet," Love said when asked to pick between the more deserving MVP between James and Westbrook. "They're fighting for a playoff spot even with Serge Ibaka going down now, Kevin Durant potentially being out the rest of the year."
Love, who was acquired by the Cavaliers in a blockbuster deal that sent top rookie pick Andrew Wiggins to the Minnesota Timberwolves, has been struggling in his first season in Cleveland, creating speculation that the 26-year-old forward will decide to leave Cleveland.
The seven-year veteran will have the opportunity to leave Cleveland in the offseason, but is expected to play in the final year of his deal and hit free agency in 2016, when he could get a bigger contract due to the new TV deal.
If Love decides to sign with the Lakers in 2016, Westbrook, who is averaging 27.6 points to go along with 8.6 assists and 7.2 rebounds per game this season, will have the chance to join his former UCLA teammate in Los Angeles when he becomes a free agent after the 2016-17 season.
