While Rachel McAdams has already been confirmed to go on board the upcoming "Doctor Strange' movie, rumors of Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen signing on to the film have still to be addressed by the "Hannibal star' himself.
If the 49-year-old actor does play a role in the upcoming movie, he will also join Benedict Cumberbatch, who takes on the titular role; Tilda Swinton as the Ancient One, also known as Strange's tutor; and Chiwetel Ejiofor, who is set to play his main nemesis Baron Mordo.
Popularly known for his role as Dr. Hannibal Lecter on the now-cancelled NBC series, Mikkelsen shared his sentiments on bagging a key role in "Doctor Strange.'
"If they do call me I would be over the moon," he admitted. "It would be fantastic to be part of the Marvel family, I mean it's something we all grew up with and we all have our heroes and Doctor Strange is definitely one of the more interesting things."
Deadline already confirmed that negotiations are at the preliminary stage and that the father-of-two is one of the few actors being considered to portray the unannounced villainous role.
Mikkelsen is then being rumored to take on the role of any of the following villains- Dormammu, Blackout, Nightmare, D'Spayre or Mephisto.
Created by Steve Ditko along with a team of exceptionally talented artists over the years, introducing Sorcerer Supreme is expected to bring on a significant impact on the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Aside from being a major player in the comics, Doctor Strange's abilities are immense and unbelievably powerful. The big-screen adaptation of the character's story could have significant consequences for films, such as 'The Avengers: Infinity War,' as Cumberbatch's character will be one of the few heroes who will be capable enough to battle it out with Thanos.
This has not been the first time that Marvel took Mikkelsen into consideration to join one of its films. The studio previously approached the actor to play an antagonist character named Malekith in "Thor: The Dark World.'
However, his commitment to filming "Hannibal' did not allow him to join the cast. In the end, the Malekith role was taken by "Doctor Who' actor Christopher Eccleston.
If the deal pushes through, "Doctor Strange' would become Mikkelsen's second high-status movie role following the cancellation of "Hannibal.' He recently landed a role in "Star Wars: Rogue One,' which has been set for an official release on Dec. 16, 2016.
Directed by Scott Derrickson and Jon Spaihts, "Doctor Strange' will start filming this November and will make its way to theaters on Nov. 14, 2016.
