Jessie Vargas is thinking big as he is already looking forward to getting big fights once he wins against former welterweight world champion Timothy Bradley in their upcoming showdown on Saturday night.
Vargas, who holds perfect 26-0 record with nine knockouts, said he is focused on winning against Bradley on Saturday night. And if he wins, the undefeated welterweight contender told On The Ropes Boxing Radio that they will make a strong push to get a shot against Manny Pacquiao.
Vargas believes that he has a good chance to get a fight against Pacquiao, considering the fact that the Filipino boxing icon is looking for a high-quality opponent before asking for a rematch against Floyd Mayweather Jr.
The 26-year-old, who is trained by Mexican boxing legend Erik Morales, said that he needs to have an impressive performance against Bradley in order to prove he deserves a big fight in the near future.
"I'm very concentrated at the task at hand, which is Timothy Bradley, but the sky is the limit after that," Vargas said. "Manny Pacquiao is a possible fight that could be done in the near future. First we look good in this fight, we come out victorious just as we have planned and Pacquiao could be a name that we can be in against."
Bradley, who holds a 31-1-1 record with his lone defeat coming against Pacquiao in April last year, is considered favorite to win against Vargas mainly because of his vast experience. Vargas believes, though, that experience will not be much of a factor on Saturday night.
"What other advantage would he have? If it is, experience would be the only thing, but I have plenty of experience myself," Vargas said when asked about the experience factor in their scheduled bout. "The big known names that he has been in against, he lost to. Who is he? I'm ready to take him out."
When asked to predict the outcome of their fight, Vargas confidently said that he will win either by a convincing unanimous decision or by knockout.
"Jessie Vargas by unanimous decision or a KO win," Vargas said. "I'm going the KO win that's for sure, and I hope I get it. I'm very positive that it will come. Like I said earlier, I've never felt this strong before, I feel very strong and very comfortable. As soon as I connect him with the right punch, he will go down."
