Floyd Mayweather Jr. responded to Manny Pacquiao's recent statement, saying that the Filipino boxing icon should stop talking and just make moves to make their fight happen in 2015.
Pacquiao recently said in an interview that he is unsure if Mayweather will engage with him in a slugfest once their potential blockbuster fight takes place in May next year.
Mayweather told Fighthype that his previous fights looked "boring" to most fans because he was just being smart inside the ring. He took a swipe at Pacquiao, saying that the former pound-for-pound king might have avoided the knockout loss to Juan Manuel Marquez if he fought smart during their fourth showdown in December 2012.
"Last time I checked, it's not called slugging; it's called boxing," Mayweather said, responding to Pacquiao's comment on his willingness to engage in an exciting fight. "I mean, that's what happened in the Marquez fight. [He] was trying to play tough guy and we [saw] what happened. It's about working smarter, not harder."
Pacquiao, who is coming off a lopsided unanimous decision win against Chris Algieri in November, also said in a recent interview that Mayweather could take whatever amount of money he wants.
The 36-year-old welterweight champion said that he is not concerned about the fight purse because he wants to give boxing fans the fight that they have been asking for since 2009.
Responding to Pacquiao's comment about the fight purse, Mayweather said: "If you're doing it just for the fans, then you can give the money back to the fans if that was the case. You want to please the fans, but you're not just doing it for the fans. You're doing it for yourself also. I mean, if he wants to fight for free, he can. I'm not fighting for free."
Mayweather, who holds a perfect 47-0 record, recently challenge Pacquiao to face him on May 2 next year. The reigning junior middleweight and welterweight champion said that Pacquiao's camp should stop making fight fans believe that he is the reason why previous negotiations went down.
The Grand Rapids, Michigan native pointed out that the fight was about to happen before, but Pacquiao declined to undergo random drug testing. Mayweather also added that Pacquiao declined to accept a guaranteed $40 million fight purse.
