"The Walking Dead' star Jon Bernthal has joined the new season of "Marvel's Daredevil', which is set to stream on Netflix in 2016.
Bernthal will take on the role of one of the most popular characters created by Marvel- the Punisher. Known as a vigilante who makes use of kidnapping, murder and threats of violence, Frank Castle is the antihero who wages a one-man war on all criminals, particularly after his wife and children were killed by the mob during a shootout in New York City.
Castle is also famous for being knowledgeable in martial arts and the use of a wide range of weapons.
"Jon Bernthal brings an unmatched intensity to every role he takes on, with a potent blend of power, motivation and vulnerability that will connect with audiences," Marvel's Head of Television Jeph Loeb stated. "Castle's appearance will bring dramatic changes to the world of Matt Murdock and nothing will be the same."
"Marvel's Daredevil' is executive produced by Doug Petrie, who previously worked on hit TV shows "American Horror Story' and "Buffy The Vampire Slayer.' He is joined by Marco Ramirez ("DaVinci's Demons'), Drew Goddard ("The Cabin in the Woods', "Lost') and Loeb himself ("Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.', "Marvel's Jessica Jones').
The first season of "Marvel's Daredevil" is now available for streaming on Netflix.
Going blind as a young boy but instilling extraordinary senses, Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) is known for battling injustice as a lawyer. By night, he becomes the superhero Daredevil in contemporary Hell's Kitchen in New York City.
Jason Statham was rumored to be joining the Marvel universe to portray the villainous role of Bullseye in "Daredevil' season two. In the comic books, Bullseye is one of Matt Murdock's main enemies and is deemed as a terrorizing villain who never misses his targets.
It is confirmed, though, that Rosario Dawson will return for the second season to reprise her role as nurse Claire Temple. "After working with Rosario in the first season, we knew instantly that we had to have her back for our second," Marvel TV Executive Producer Jeph Loeb stated on the company's site last Friday."Claire Temple proved a fan favorite in Season 1, and we can't wait for fans to see all the plans we have for her next."
Season 2 is set to begin filming in the next few months just in time for its debut in the first half of 2016.
