"The Maze Runner: Scorch Trials' actor Dylan O'Brien recently dropped a couple of spoilers on what fans can look forward to in the highly anticipated installment. The 23-year-old actor revealed that his character Thomas, together with Teresa (Kaya Scodelario), Newt (Thomas Brodie-Sangster), Minho (Ki Hong Lee), Frypan (Dexter Darden) and Winston (Alexander Flores) will come face-to-face with the horrors waiting for them behind the wall.
In an interview with Hollywire TV, the "Teen Wolf' star announced that Thomas will come across several surprises when he learns about what is lurking outside of the maze.
The actor also mentioned that some viewers might believe that the story will come to an end now that the group found a way to escape. However, their cliff-hanging adventure only begins from here.
O'Brien also revealed that their escape from the maze could be the most terrible decision they have ever made. He mentioned that being out in the real world means the need for survival but with no more walls to protect them.
In the second installment, Thomas and his fellow maze survivors have new discoveries, including the existence of the Scorch- the most burned-out part of the world. Their team is also obliged to cross the region while WICKED puts forth challenges and ensures that the odds are against these teenagers.
According to Empire Online, fans who have already read the dystopian sci-fi novel by James Dashner could be taken by surprise in seeing certain changes in the movie.
The film's helmer, Wes Ball, announced their decision to change the order of the series after asking for Dashner's permission in order to bring forth something "new and unexpected" in the franchise.
Last month, 20th Century Fox also released the first trailer and poster for "Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials' as Thomas tries to stay alive by solving the Maze, succeeding in their quest and finding out that they have been involved in a trial carried out by the Creators.
"I think it's safe to say the maze trials were a complete success," a woman speaks through a voiceover at the start of the "Scorch Trials' trailer. "It's too soon to say, but they could be the key to everything. It's time now to begin phase two."
"The Maze Runner: Scorch Trials" is set to hit 3D, 2D, and IMAX theaters on Sept. 18. The first film, which was developed with a budget of $34 million, pulled in a total of $340.8 million at the international box office.
