'Braveheart' screenwriter Randall Wallace and Mel Gibson are following up the 2004 "Passion of the Christ" with a sequel on Jesus' resurrection.
Wallace told The Hollywood Reporter that he has started writing the script of the movie on resurrection.
"I always wanted to tell this story," said Wallace. "The Passion is the beginning and there's a lot more story to tell."
The Passion of the Christ was made in a budget of $30 million, and grossed $612 million worldwide. It is the highest-earning non-English, highest-earning R-rated (because of the graphic depictions), and highest-earning religious movies of all times.
Beyond the numbers of the Mel Gibson production were the lives that were profoundly changed for the better because of the film.
The movie "Passion of the Christ" was documented to have profound impact on the lives of thousands of people.
Jody Eldred produced a documentary called Changed Lives: Miracles of The Passion, in which many real-life stories of changed lives were featured. He also wrote a book by the same name.
"I feel like I need to see it every year or so to keep fresh the reality of what Jesus did for me. Like everyone, I had never seen an accurate portrayal of what Jesus willingly went through to buy salvation for me personally. He could have stopped the horror at any moment, but he chose not to," he said.
Film critic and creator of 'Decent Films Guide' website, Steven Greydanus, told National Catholic Register that The Passion did change Hollywood for the better.
"Hollywood figured out quickly after The Passion that its success wasn't something that could be simply replicated. This wasn't another Star Wars or Raiders of the Lost Ark," he said.
