Mexico and Peru will collide in an international soccer friendly match on Wednesday at the Estadio Nacional in Lima as part of their preparation for the Copa America.
Mexico coach Miguel Herrera and his squad will look to pick up from where they left off during their 3-0 win against Guatemala on Saturday. Following the match, Herrera said that they will look to sustain their momentum heading into the friendlies against Peru and Brazil.
"We still have a couple of games," Herrera said on Saturday via Goal. "We will look to go far, we have no other idea in mind other than to reach the final and win it. The team is well, is solid, has good players and played well, scored good goals and you need that to beat any opponent."
Mexico, who have won in three of their last four friendly matches, will once again pin their hopes on Eduardo Herrera, who was on target on Saturday. Herrera torched Guatemala with two goals.
The 'El Tri' squad will also get a major boost as they are set to welcome veteran Rafael Marquez, who has not played for the national team after their campaign in the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
Marquez could have played for Mexico against Guatemala, but the 36-year-old was unavailable as he was still playing for Hellas Verona in the Italian Serie A during the friendly.
Like Marquez, Adrian Aldrete and George Corral will also be in the lineup to provide defensive boosts for 'El Tri' against Peru after also missing the Guatemala match because they played in the Liga MX final.
Meanwhile, new Peru coach Ricardo Gareca admitted that he is still adjusting to his role after taking charge in February. Gareca lost in his debut against Venezuela, but striker Jefferson Farfan is confident that they will make their new coach look good in their match against Mexico.
"I am ready to face this new challenge at the Copa America," Farfan told Depor. "We have a mix of young and experienced people and that's the good thing about this group. The coach told me that we have a team which can go far, and I think so too."
