Microsoft Lumia 940 Updates, Specs & Release Date: Check Out the Rumored Specs of Microsoft Upcoming Handset

Various sources leaked new information regarding the specs of Microsoft's upcoming smarthone, the Lumia 940.

In addition, the company is reportedly planning on releasing a larger version of the handset, which is dubbed as the Lumia 940 XL, according to VC Post.

The Lumia 940 is expected to sport an exterior design similar to that of the Lumia 830, which featured an aluminum frame and a polycarbonate rear cover.

It will also sport a 5.2 Quad HD display with a resolution of 1440x2560 pixels. GSM Arena noted that the upcoming Lumia flagship handset will be powered by an unidentified hexa-core processor. The site speculated that Microsoft might turn to Qualcomm's Snapdragon 808 chipset for the Lumia 940.

For its bigger counterpart, the Lumia 940 XL is said to come with a 5.7-inch display that packs the similar resolution settings of the Lumia 940. Aside from the difference in screen size, the larger model is also expected to pack a more powerful processor, such as the Snapdragon 810.

Both devices will have 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. It isn't clear yet if the devices' storage capacities can be expanded with a microSD card.

The two models will also sport 20-megapixel PureView main cameras. On the front side, the handsets will feature 5-megapixel selfie shooters.

For the upcoming smartphones, Microsoft is also preparing a couple of new apps that are specifically designed for business professionals. The first app, called InstaNote, will let users record details of conversations as well as take down voice notes. The recorded information can then be shared to other Windows Phone users.

The Dialer for Lync app, on the other hand, will allow users to join meetings of Lync or Skype for Business through a voice call from their Windows Phone.

There are no official release dates yet for the Lumia 940 and Lumia 940 XL but Microsoft previously said that it will not launch a new Lumia handset before the unveil of the Windows 10. Ecumenical News speculated that the new devices might come out in June, which is during the same month as the new OS' release.
