With the Microsoft Pro Surface 4's rumored launch date fast approaching, many of the laplet's major details are already beginning to emerge.
According to various sources, the upcoming device from Microsoft is expected to be a major upgrade over its predecessor.
As noted by Tom Warren, the senior editor of The Verge, the laplet will not be powered by a Core M chipset, which is based on Intel's Broadwell microarchitecture.
"If you like the Surface Pro 3 you'll definitely like the Surface Pro 4," he tweeted. "Don't worry, it won't be using Core M chips.
Warren, however, did not mention what type of processor will power the Surface Pro 4. But according to The Cubic Lane, the laplet might come with Intel's next-generation Skylake chipset. It is expected to pack different RAM configurations with the largest one at 16GB.
It might also come with 1TB of internal storage and 256GB of SSD space.
The Surface Pro 4 will also sport a bigger display than the Surface Pro 3. Although this is yet to be confirmed, Tech News Today noted that it will have 12 and 14-inch screen variants.
Unlike other new devices, the Surface Pro 4 might not come with a USB Type-C port. Instead, it might feature USB 3.0 and USB 3.1 ports.
Microsoft's laptop-tablet hybrid is expected to launch on October 4. However, various rumors suggest that it will be unveiled by the company on October 19 along with its new line of Lumia smartphones.
According to Pocket-Lint, Microsoft is preparing to introduce the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950XL at an event sometime in October. However, since the company will also be present at next month's IFA event in Berlin to unveil its newest Windows 10-based devices, this could also serve as the main stage for the launch of the upcoming Lumia handsets and the Surface Pro 4.
But, according to Warren, rumors about an October launch for the next generation laplet are true. However, it is not yet clear which date Warren was actually referring to.
Although the exact dates are still unconfirmed, it appears Microsoft is already preparing to for the launch of the Surface Pro 4 since it has already started slashing the prices of the Surface Pro 3.
Instead of the original price of $1,549, users can now buy the Surface Pro 3 with Intel Core i7 and 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage for $1,299, according to Gotta be Mobile. Given the huge discount, it seems the company is starting to clear out its shelves to make room for the Surface Pro 4.
