Microsoft is rumored to be preparing to unveil a new Lumia flagship smartphone along with the release of its Windows 10 OS.
An executive from the company said that after the launch of the new OS, Microsoft will focus its attention on producing high-end mobile devices, according to NDTV.
However, since the Windows 10 still does not have an official release date, it is not yet clear as to when the new flagship phone will debut. But according to Ajey Mehta, the managing director of Microsoft Mobile Devices, the company will most likely pair Windows 10 with a new smartphone model.
"We believe we have to offer the best possible experience to the consumers," the executive told Indian Express according to NDTV.
"Once we are ready with Windows 10 and our devices, that is the right time to launch," he added. "People are looking for signature experiences and it is very important for us to offer those signature experiences."
Despite his statements, Mehta did not go into detail regarding the actual design of the mobile device or what it's going to be called.
However, an insider who works in Microsoft said that the company is working on a successor for the Lumia 830. Although it still does not have an official name yet, Microsoft employees are reportedly referring to it as the Lumia840, Phone Arena has learned.
"We have some info about one such mid-ranger in works, that may pack dual SIM support, 13-14 [megapixel] rear camera (PureView), 5-megapixel front camera, better processor and may sport similar or slightly modified design to Lumia 830," the source said according to the tech site. "While it is not sure what the name may be, we may call it Lumia 840 for our convenience."
The insider added that the Lumia 840 may have a screen size of around 5 inches.
Although the Lumia 840 can be considered as a rumored device, it is probably not the smartphone Mehta was referring to. For one, the Microsoft employee said the device s a mid-range smartphone, but Mehta said the Windows 10 will most likely debut with a high-end handset.
In addition, the insider said the Lumia 840 will come with the pre-installed Windows Phone 8.1 GDR2, and not the Windows 10.
