The Milal Mission has given $152,000 to 88 students in its 2015 scholarship program. Milal has continued a tradition of giving scholarships by raising funds in an annual "Milal Night' event since 2001. Over the past 14 years, the organization has given $1.81 million in scholarship to 897 students.
On Jan. 25, Milal held its scholarship ceremony at the Korean Christian Reformed Church of Orange County, at which staff of Milal of Southern California, Jae-Suh Lee from World Milal, Young-Sun Lee from Milal Mission in California, and Jung-Ki Kim from Milal Mission of Northern California were present to congratulate the students.
Of note, scholarship recipients included 14 students with disabilities, and 10 students from foreign countries such as the Philippines and Western Sahara.
One of the recipients included Sung-Kyu Jang, a student with a sight impairment who is planning to attend the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University to receive a Master of Music in the Clarinet. Jang performed the clarinet at the award ceremony, bringing out much emotion and encouragement to the attendees.
Meanwhile, Pastor Jong-Hwe Lee was inaugurated to be the head of the Milal Mission in Southern California. Pastor Lee's active involvement in Milal's ministry has been notable, as he was a participant since his years as a student in Chongshin University, and was involved in the Seattle branch as well once he moved to the U.S.
