Milal Mission of Southern California selected and gave $148,400 worth of scholarships to 94 students this year. Since 2001, the non-profit has given $1,958,400 in scholarships.

Milal hosted a fundraising night late last year with the Korean singer Bada, during which $206,594.75 was raised through attendance fees and donations. From the funds, $56,507.02 was used to cover expenses to put together the event and for advertising fees, which left $150,087.73. $148,400 of the leftover funds was used to give scholarships to students this month.

Along with 14 full-time college students who received $3,600 each, the "Ggoom-Na-Moo Scholarship' was given to 28 students, the "Edison Grant' was given to five students, the "J&J Grant' was given to two students, and the "James Worldwide, Inc. Grant' was given to five students, all of whom were given $1,000 each. Internship scholarships of $3,600 each were also given to five students. Students overseas, including 10 in South Korea, and 10 in countries such as the Philippines and West Sahara received scholarships of $1,000 each.

All scholarship recipients have disabilities, such as autism, cerebral palsy, visual and/or hearing impairments, intellectual disabilities, quadriplegia, hypochondroplastic dwarfism, Kabuki syndrome, and Jacobsen syndrome, among others. Students from New York University, University of Southern California, Azusa Pacific University, Biola University, the Peabody Institute of John Hopkins University, California State University of Long Beach, University of California, Irvine, Orange Coast College, and Oakton Community College, were among those who received scholarships, along with students in various elementary, middle, and high schools.

The awards ceremony for the scholarships took place on January 24 at Thanksgiving Church in Buena Park. Some 170 people attended the ceremony.
"This is particularly meaningful because these scholarships were brought about by all of your service and love, even in the midst of difficult circumstances," said a Milal Mission representative. "All of this is God's grace."
