Telltale Games has announced that the first episode of its "Minecraft: Story Mode" game will be available for multiple platforms starting on October 13.
The development studio assured gamers that despite carrying a different theme, the game will still feel like the original "Minecraft" series from Mojang, PC Mag reported.
The first episode titled "The Order of the Stone" will first arrive for the PC, Mac, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Xbox 360. The versions of the game for the iOS and Android devices will then be released on October 15.
PC and Mac players will be able to purchase the game from Steam and the Telltale Online store. Xbox and PlayStation owners on the other hand can secure their copies of the game from the Xbox Games Store and the PlayStation Network respectively. The mobile version of the game will debut on Apple's iTunes, Google Play and the Amazon Appstore.
As its title suggests, "Minecraft: Story Mode" will follow a narrative, instead of just building various worlds like in other "Minecraft" games. Despite this, Telltale Games noted that it worked closely with Mojang developers to ensure that the game still carries the original "Minecraft" vibe.
Also, for the first time in the series' history, players will be able to choose the gender and appearance of the main character. Gamers can either play the protagonist Jesse as either a male or female character and can choose from three different appearances for each gender.
The male version of Jesse will be voiced by comedian Patton Oswalt while the female character will be brought to life by voice actress Catherine Taber.
"Minecraft: Story Mode," which will only support a single-player mode, is an adventure type of game featuring a band of characters taking on an important mission. Being the first episode, "The Order of the Stone" will set the story for the entire game.
"In 'Minecraft: Story Mode,' playing as either male or female hero named Jesse, you'll embark on a perilous adventure across the Overworld, through the Nether, to the End," Telltale Games wrote in a blog post. "You and your friends revere the legendary Order of the Stone: Warrior, Redstone Engineer, Griefer and Architect; slayers of the Ender Dragon."
"While at EnderCon in hopes of meeting Gabriel the Warrior, Jesse's friends discover that something is wrong...something dreadful," the studio added. "Terror is unleashed, and you must set out on a quest to find The Order of the Stone if you are to save your world from oblivion."
Telltale Games has not yet announced when the follow-up episodes of the game will be released. But, gamers can probably expect to see the next chapters of "Minecraft: Story Mode" within a few weeks after the first episode's launch.
