NetherRealm Studios, the developer of the "Mortal Kombat" game franchise, announced that a mobile version will be released alongside the upcoming fighting title "Mortal Kombat X," Eurogamer reported.
Ed Boon, the head of the development studio, said "Mortal Kombat X: Mobile" will debut for both Android and iOS devices.
Based on the trailer for the game's mobile version, its game play features a mix between one-on-one combat and card battling. Players can control their characters through the mobile devices' swipe system. As seen in the trailer, players can also execute Fatality moves using the same control methods.
In addition, "Mortal Kombat X: Mobile" will supports both single-player and multiplayer game modes and has high-quality graphics.
"NetherRealm Studios has created a 'Mortal Kombat X' mobile experience that allows more players than ever before to play this over-the-top fighting game through their ever-present smartphones, tablets or other devices," Boon said in a press release according to Game Spot.
The studio also mentioned that "Mortal Kombat X: Mobile," which will be released as a free-to-play game, will be equipped with a cross-connectivity feature.
This means players who own the console version of the game can use their achievements, rewards and other unlocked content in "Mortal Kombat X: Mobile." However, players can only take advantage of this feature after creating WB Play accounts for "Mortal Kombat X."
As for the characters that will be included in the mobile game, NetherRealm did not mention if it will feature the same roster as the console version of "Mortal Kombat X." But the studio noted that main characters such as Raiden, Sub-Zero and Scorpion as well as new additions to the franchise will be featured in "Mortal Kombat X: Mobile."
"Mortal Kombat X" for the Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and Microsoft Windows will hit the market on April 14 of this year. Its iOS and Android versions will also debut on the same day.
