There are speculations going around that Motorola's Moto G2 handset will not receive the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update from Google.
According to rumors, Google has now focused its attention on the Android M since it has been officially launched.
The company's latest OS was introduced to the public last May during the I/O tech event. Since the Android M's launch, Google has been working overtime to roll out the Android 5.1 update to devices that came out with the previous versions of the company's OS.
This includes the Moto G, Moto X 1st and 2nd generations and the Moto E 2nd generation with 4G LTE. The Moto G 2nd generation, or Moto G2, which came with the Android 4.4.4 KitKat, also received the Android 5.1 Lollipop update.
Given the update's roll outs, it's probably safe to assume that the next step for Google is to seed the latest version of the Android Lollipop to all devices.
However, since Google noted that the Android M might be released sometime during the third quarter of this year, the company might become too busy with its new operating system.
Master Herald speculated that this could mean that certain devices will not be able to receive the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update, including the Moto G2. The news site noted that this is probably because the devices just received version 5.1.
As for the Moto G2's successor, it is not yet confirmed as to which Android version the device will be running on. After all, Motorola has not yet officially announced the exact release date of the smartphone.
If it debuts before Google releases Android M, then the Moto G3 might come with the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. However, if it arrives after Android M's release, then it will most likely sport Google's latest operating platform.
But, since these are all based on speculations, the Moto G2 users could still get the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update depending on Google and Motorola's decisions.
